Vineyard
100% focus on the sustainability of the vineyard and the quality of the organic wine.
L’invité develops a modern, organic vineyard and circular food forest at the sunniest spot in the Netherlands: Domein Bergen, 30 km north of Amsterdam.
The domain is literally built from the ground up, in a modern, sustainable way. With a lot of attention for healthy soil life and rich biodiversity. The soil has been prepared and is now resting. Spring 2021 the first 2000 vines will be planted.
The domain is built with the financial support of our members. Together we realize this special project.
100% focus on the sustainability of the vineyard and the quality of the organic wine.
Over a hundred different edible trees and plants will be built on the domain, each with their own role in the biodiversity of the area.
Our members support our vineyard. They are always welcome on the estate and receive their share of the domain’s produce.
New resistant grape varieties make sustainable viticulture in the Netherlands now possible.
Active healthy living space for animals, birds, bees and insects is stimulated on the domain.
The domain works in a natural, circular and biological way with a great deal of attention to healthy soil life.
Looking forward to tasting some Domein Bergen wines :-)
we support this great project
Nice project! I’m happy to lend a hand at the wine estate; I live around the corner!
I could already smell the salty North Sea notes of the organic wine.
Nice to participate in this project and then also in the wine. As a new Vinologist, this has more than my interest!
I just enjoy participating and wish the project the best of luck!
* Your personal grapevine will be planted and labeled in the first year of your membership. It will bear your name for the duration of the vine’s life, even when you are not a member anymore.
How much work is it for me?
Not at all!
Your grapevine is full-service taking cared of by our viticulturist and his team. You are always welcome for a nice walk on the domain and a personal inspection of your grapevine.
We do not expect any work from you, but if love to help on the vinyard, please let us know.
When can I drink organic wine from my grapevines?
Take it easy!
From year 3 your grapevines are expected to start producing a bit. From year 5 your vines are expected to be in full production.
The produce of the grapes will be processed by our viticulturist and bottled exclusively for our members.
You will get your share of the produce as long as you are a member in the year of the harvest.
Can I give it as a present?
Great idea!
After buying you will receive a membershipcard and en label for you personal grapevine.
We are working on a nice Gift presentation with a wooden box, a professional winetasting glas, the label and membershipcard and more. This will include a membership for 5 years.
If you are interested in this, please contact sico@domeinbergen.nl.
Can I also board later?
Yes!
For 2021 we have now ordered 2000 vines. There are still enough vines available for new members. If these are used up, you can still become a member, but your vines will be planted next season.
We expect to plant vines again in 2022 or 2023.
Can I also buy a bottle of wine?
Not any time soon.
A sustainable vineyard is a long-term investment. We do not expect the first wines until 2024 (harvest of 2023), in the following years there will be more volume and more quality.
All wines from Domein Bergen will be distributed among members with one or more own vines.
The wines will therefore not be sold separately.
What’s the location of Domain Bergen?
There are two locations now
Schapenlaan. This is a plot of 2.3 hectares north-east of Bergen. This is now being developed for sustainable viticulture and circular food forest.
Bergerweg. This is a plot of 0,5 hectares south of Bergen. This is our test location. All grape varieties are listed in small numbers, including the new, unknown grape varieties.
Get a weekly update on the creation of this new vineyard and food forest with stories, photos and videos, including all the setbacks, surprises and moments of happiness we encounter in realizing this sustainable vineyard.
